Kim Pallister does business development and developer relations for Microsoft's Casual Games Group. He joined Microsoft in 2005 and has worked with the games industry for twelve years managing developer relations teams with Intel and previously with Matrox Graphics. Having published numerous articles on sites such as gamasutra, he also was editor-in-chief of the Game Programming Gems 5 book. He is originally from Montreal but currently resides in Seattle.

Opportunities and Challenges in the Age of Digital Distribution Niche proliferation. Channel Democratization. The 'Long Tail'. These buzzwords come up whenever digital distribution is discussed. Will the move to digital distribution lead to a new era of gaming, opening up new audiences, genres, and success for indie developers? Or are we merely creating a copy of today's market? This session will ponder these questions, discussing models evolving in casual games, as well as implications of new business models, technologies and platforms. The session will also look at challenges in getting visibility in digital markets, and how marketing and merchandising may change. Finally, we'll discuss implications for developers in preparing for these challenges.
